About the Artist

The Artist and His Work:

Dave's paintings have been displayed in over 100 exhibitions receiving many top awards. Some of his special achievement awards are: Design Award - Pratt Graphic Art Institute, Merit Award - Ohio House of Representatives and a Portrait of Susan Perkins, (Miss America 1978). A native of Columbus, Ohio, Dave began painting seriously when he was in high school.

Acrylic and watercolor are Dave's favorite media. The mood he captures with wet on wet and dry brush techniques capture a nostalgic effect and sereneness, which pleases the eye.

Included in Dave's work are paintings not of the traditional style. By using more color and gestural brushwork, building textures with a palette knife and using more movement of figures with a strong light source, the paintings convey an impressionistic look.

Viewpoint:

Being a professional artist, I strive to maintain high quality in my work. Basically I am concerned with five elements: composition, color, rhythm, balance and light. My goal is to achieve purpose and essence and to stir the emotion of the viewer.

My subject matter is vast: patriotic scenes from Boston, majestic scenes from the Grand Canyon, and quiet country landscapes. Painting different subjects gives me a sense of wonder and excitement. I invite the viewer to join me on a colorful journey. Broad vistas and small vignettes are part of my repertoire. I enjoy planning the painting and being drawn into the scenes as it develops.

My style is eclectic. The sentimental scenes from the past are very appealing, but I also enjoy painting more contemporary pieces with an abstract or spiritual quality. My interest varies from realistic to abstract with representations of garden scenes, stage presentations and the presence of the Divine in the abstract paintings.

"Art is a commitment, total and absolute, made by the artist which demands concentration and hard work."
